My preferred restaurant in Shanghai is the Vegetarian Lifestyle, also known as Jujube Tree. It’s one of Shanghai‘s most popular vegetarian restaurants with 4 branches in town. I go always to the one situated in Jing’an area, just 5 min walking distance from the West Nanjing Road subway station.

Over the weekend at lunch and dining time, the place can be crowdy.  The place is simple (nothing special) and has 2 floors. I found every time an english speaking waiter/waitress…more or less, but very helpful to find the dishes without milk and eggs.

I got also a lot of smiles with my menu card and with my dishes. The menu card is also translated in english and has some pictures for most oft the dishes. I love the dishes with yam (sweet potato), I like the rolls with sesame for example, the different soups, the spinach dumplings, and to end on a sweet note I adore the steamed buns filled with beans or dumplings.

You can enjoy also fine teas, served in a pot warmed by a candle. That is the place where I love to go after a long cultural or shopping day, to meet my Chinese friends, or to have a lonely dinner.
